2 Challenges for Women on Keto

2 Challenges for Women on Keto

Today is part two of 3 major challenges that women face on the keto lifestyle. Yes, men have challenges also, but women have a couple that happen a lot more.

Yesterday was about Weight Loss Stalls. Men and Women get them, but they are more frequently a problem with women.

Today, we’ll talk about two other things women face.

Challenge #1 – Hormone imbalances

Hormones rule. No, I mean they literally rule.

You think you feel a certain way, but if your hormones change, you could feel the opposite in a minute.

If you’ve ever been in love, you know how that flush of certain hormones just takes over everything. It changes how you see the world.

Keto is an endocrine-based diet. This means we rely on hormones to make it work.

If there’s a hormonal imbalance in your body, Keto will probably make it more noticeable.

There’s a couple of things you can do to mitigate this.

The first thing is to adjust your thinking about your body… aim for a happy body weight.

Instead of a Runway Model ideal weight. You can always get to that later.

Understand there’s a happy weight. And that it’s different from your ideal weight.

You don’t have a man’s body. Women’s bodies are healthiest at around 22-29% body fat.

Going lower than that can cause or intensify existing hormonal trouble.

The second thing you can do is to sync up your eating with your menstrual cycles.

Increasing protein intake during your period can help smooth out hormonal changes and imbalances.

Challenge #2 – Emotional eating

Of the 2 Challenges for Women on Keto, this one can be big….if you let it.

Women tend to feel their emotions more than men. Again, it’s not that anyone is better or worse, it’s nature's design. It’s so that a woman can do her job in nature.

When hormones are high throughout the body, you can feel all sorts of strong emotions.

This can lead the way to comfort eating, or eating for other reasons.

OK, so you’re going to comfort eat. Not a problem (within reason).  There is something you can do about it.

There are a whole world of keto friendly desserts. Ice cream, snacks, cheesecake!

First, make some Keto-friendly ice cream, snacks or a Keto dessert like cheesecake.

These will certainly help the temptation of cheating on your Keto journey.

And second… look at your emotional issues.

Try to see if you can identify what is causing the emotion. Then work on it with compassion for yourself, not blame.

That one change in how you treat yourself can make a world of difference.

Examine your emotions to figure out what is causing the emotional eating.

Then work on it with love and compassion.
