Low Carb Doesn't Equal Low Stress

Low Carb Doesn't Equal Low Stress

When you do a keto diet, one of the biggest things we tell people to do is lower your stress level.

Stress in the body, makes the body create a hormone called cortisol. Cortisol tends to interfere with the body’s ability to deal with blood sugar.

Cortisol is considered to be a stress hormone. It gives you symptoms of being under stress. But being under stress makes your body secrete Coritsol!

It’s a catch 22.

If you have high levels of cortisol circulating in your blood, it can disrupt sleep patterns, increase abdominal fat, and lower your immune system.

Cortisol is also the hormone which make the ‘Fight or flight’ response.

If you are walking around all day in anxiety, comfort eating is going to come into the picture eventually.

Why all this talk about cortisol?

Because there are things you can do to keep it under control. Low Carb Doesn't Equal Low Stress, but you can change that.

  1. Get enough sleep.

You might have to actually change something in your life to get this to happen. If you keep your self stimulated constantly at night, it will be much harder to go to bed.

Maybe turn off the devices, and read a physical book or magazine when it gets later. Lay down in bed at the same time every night. It gets your body into a habit, and good habits are very powerful thing.

  1. Practice relaxation

When you lay down, consciously relax yourself. Put your mind onto nice things. Think about beautiful things…nature, art, music, whatever works for you.

  1. Breathe through your left nostril

I know, this sounds strange. You have 2 nostrils for a reason. One nostril is always open more than the other. If you lie down on your right side, your left nostril is facing up toward the ceiling. The nostril on top will open. You will have a much better chance of falling asleep when breathing through your left nostril.

Just try it. You’ll see.

Relax and lose weight. That’s how it works. Low Carb Doesn't Equal Low Stress necessarily, but you have lots to do with that.
