Starting Keto the Easy Way

When you first start keto you have to deal with several different areas of concern.

Unlike a salad diet, where you just eat salads, keto takes some figuring. You must know the composition of the foods you eat.

Macros is short for macro-nutrients. The macro-nutrients are fats, protein, and carbohydrates.

Keto depends on a pretty specific balance of those nutrients.

For fast keto, you normally want to have the carbs very low, around 20 – 25 grams per day.

Sometimes people can tell a big difference between 20 and 25 grams of carbs. They will not lose weight at 25 , but will if they lower it only to 20 grams.

This all depends on the individual. We are all genetically different.

Some people actually need more carbs for their bodies to even function properly.

Therefore, all keto diets are given as a starting point. Then you, the individual, has to experiment some to see what works for you.

One of the biggest problems starting keto is going cold turkey with the carbs. It might be fine in theory, but it might cause a lot more problems than it’s worth.

If you have been on high carbs your whole life, I have a better idea than cold turkey.

Starting Keto the Easy Way Means Gradual Withdrawal

If you are in a big hurry to lose, then you might want to skip this. But I highly recommend it for health and diet success reasons.

The dependence on the “Carb rush” is a real thing. Carbs give a ‘temporary’ increase in pleasure hormones. Note the word temporary.

It is short lived, and you feel worse afterwards. It sounds like a drug problem because it’s very similar in how it affects the body.

Knowing that, it makes more sense to wean the body off of carbs.  Try to figure out how much carbs per day you currently have. It’s probably a lot, and it’s a good thing for you to know.

Once You Know, You Have Power

Then, as you get ready to start keto, gradually decrease your carbs over a week or ten days down to the target level.

If you are a person that needs carbs medically and genetically, you can still do keto. You just have to expect it to take longer as your carb levels will have to be higher.  Some keto diets allow up to 100 grams of carbs per day.

The carbs should be only high quality, like a lot of leafy greens, other vegetables, and some berries. Junky carbs will make it harder for you to stay in ketosis.

Hydrate!

The other very important, but basic rule is to stay hydrated. Drink lots of water with electrolytes. When fat is used as energy it drains electrolytes from the body. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate…with electrolytes, and you will skip most of the unpleasant parts of starting keto.

Starting keto the easy way makes it much more likely for you to succeed.
