This is actually an area of conflict. some people say just eat until you feel full, and if the foods are correct it won’t matter.
Others say you have to watch the calories AND the balance of macronutrients.
Who’s right. Well, both. The thing about food and your diet is that you aren’t like anyone else.
Yes, there are general groups of types. It’s a genetic thing. Some people can skip one meal and lose weight, others diet for weeks and barely move the scale. Those are some frustrated people.
Some people are really attracted to carbs. Some can take it or leave it.
You have to find out where you fit in by trial and error.
I didn’t say trial and terror. Don’t get caught up in every little moment having to be perfect. Starting Keto is like any other thing in life. At the beginning, you will be finding out the best way that works for you.
So when you start doing keto, you will start to see what works.
Let’s say you start with 25 grams of carbs per day. Then, Protein – About 25% of calories per day, and Fats (healthy fats) – 70% to 80% of calories per day.
See, the numbers are not hard and fast. Just pick a number, or a range to stay inside of, and start eating that way. It will soon become apparent if it’s working or not.
Remember, Keto isn’t always only about weight. Keto-ers universally report that even when their weight takes a plateau, their bodies continue to change and look better. You can be losing inches, without losing weight.
It’s because the composition of the body changes on Keto. The big, fluffy fat, gets replaced by firm, protein based muscle and other healthy tissue.
OK, so now you are cruising along on your Keto diet. You are losing weight and feeling great. Then one day you notice the weight loss stalls out.
Now you can play around with
- Calories. Actually count them and try lowering them.
- Carbs. You can temporarily lower your carb intake.
- Protein to Fat ratio. Maybe change up how much protein to fat you eat.
Your body will dictate the exact way you do Keto. How much exercise do you get? How old are you? How much do you need to lose?
Keto is a knowledge base that has to be used properly. It’s not a one size fits all.
So get ready to take responsibility for YOUR body and mind. You are in charge. You will have to figure out what works best for you.
