10 Keto Tips I wish I knew when i started – pt 2
- Having a plan is absolutely necessary
If you don’t plan to succeed, you are planning to fail. The day will come when you are out somewhere, or even at home, and you run out of prepared food.
What if the dog just got hurt, and you have to run to the vet. Meanwhile, one of the kids has to be picked up at school, and your spouse needs an errand run for them.
What will you grab? Snickers? That would be bad.
Always, always have a weekly plan. Have as much of the food made ahead of time as possible. Also, have keto friendly snackables handy. Nuts, avocado, cheese, things you can grab with no prep. Then some simple prep things like salad with olives, cheese, a protein.
Your kitchen has to be made into a safe zone.
- Try to avoid artificial sweeteners in the early stages
If you keep chasing your sweet tooth, it can really cause problems to base your meal planning around trying to replace sugar.
If you go ahead and bust through, you might find that your sweet tooth is not such a big monster as you thought. It’s a paper tiger, and once you bust the illusion, you will have a lot more control. And you will feel better about yourself.
Let’s face it, being addicted to a refined white powder? What does that remind you of?
When you do start using sweeteners, stay away from anything that ends with “itol”. Like Malitol or Xylitol. They are sugar alcohols that ferment in the gut. Not good for you, your diet, or your intestines.
- Weigh and track everything you eat
This is the part of Keto that can be a real pain. But it’s definitely something that you need to learn. Macros is shorthand for macronutrients. Carbs, Proteins, Fats.
At first you have to figure out how much of each thing you are eating. The easiest way is to use a macro counting app. You can enter the food you want to eat into the app and it will tell you the proportions of each macro.
As you practice this, you will get better at it. But I have to tell you that you don’t have to go through this hassle.
There are pre made plans available that save you all that planning and figuring. It will make your life hugely easier.
The one I recommend even has a shopping list so you don’t even have to think about what to buy. It has what to eat each day, and the recipes for the food you buy. To turn them into delicious meals.
It also has thousands of users who REALLY lose the weight and keep it off.
You can find it here: https://rockthatketo.com/sk.
As you do the diet and learn which foods are which, you will be able to do the figuring in your head. But if you ever get stuck, or start gaining weight, you’ll know it’s time to go back to counting.
Have a Happy, Healthy Day
