Nothing happens! There is Keto all around you! It super easy these days, if you know what to look for.
Virtually any burger place.
Lettuce-wrapped burger – The simplest of all.
Every burger joint you pass becomes an oasis. Burger, hold the bun, wrap it in a leaf of lettuce. If their lettuce is shredded, then get the burger in a bowl with the shredded lettuce.
It’s high protein, almost carb free and available everywhere.
If you want to add a little pizazz to the plain burger, here’s what it costs you (carb wise) to add things on. These are the low carb add ons or toppings and a general idea of their carb count.
Bacon: Adds less than 1 gram of carbs per slice
A slice of cheese: Adds about a gram of carbs per slice
Mayonnaise: Each tablespoon of Mayo is less than 1 carb
Tomato: Less than a gram of fiber carbs per slice
Onions: 1 gram of fiber carbs per slice
Guacamole topping, if they have it: 3 grams of fiber carbs per 2 ½” ounces.
Mustard: Less than 1 gram of carbs in a tablespoon
So, for example, if you get a burger pattie, a slice of cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, and mayo, you are around 3 to 4 net carbs, depending on which restaurant. You can always add another burger patty, as it is virtually zero carbs.
Next on the list of keto fast food options
The national food of sports fans. Many pizza places and definitely sports bars serve them. But you really have to ask about how they are prepared.
The traditional buffalo wings recipe has them covered in a spicy red sauce made from red peppers and vinegar.
If they are prepared this way, one order of these buffalo wings typically has 0–3 grams of carbs per serving.
But there is a catch. Many times the sauces can add a bunch of carbs. Anything sweet like teriyaki or barbecue, or anything with honey. Definitely ask about contents. Once you find the places that make them how you want, you won’t have to ask every time.
Obviously breaded or battered and fried won’t work. Always know how they are made before ordering. Don’t be shy about asking.
Buffalo wings are served with carrots, celery, and ranch dressing many times. Carrots are pretty high carb, but a small amount will only add a carb or two. Check the ranch dressing. Sometimes they are low carb, sometimes not.
So go out into the world with confidence. Keto fast food options are everywhere.
